The Twenty-Fourth Annual BBA Spring Break Weekend

The Twenty-Fourth Annual BBA Spring Break Weekend will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 and Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Westin Annapolis Hotel in Annapolis. The program will begin with a drop in lunch on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for those who want to grab a bite to eat and network with other attendees before the educational programs begin, and the program will end on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
The panels on Hot Topics in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases, Hot Topics in Business Bankruptcy Cases, Ethical Issues for Bankruptcy Practitioners, Recent Case and Rule Developments in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases, and Recent Case and Rule Developments in Business Bankruptcy Cases will return to the program this year. In addition, judges from Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington, DC will participate in the Judges’ Round Table on Consumer Bankruptcy Topics and the Judges’ Round Table on Business Bankruptcy Topics. The program also will include a panel on the Small Business Reorganization Act, a frank discussion with the Maryland judicial law clerks called Listen to the Law Clerks, practical demonstrations with Cross Examination of a Real Estate Appraiser and Cross Examination of a Valuation Expert, and an entertaining game of Bankruptcy Jeopardy.
The registration fee includes program materials (available in a book or by pdf), a cocktail party at the Annapolis Yacht Club on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., a dessert party hosted by Yumkas Vidmar Sweeney & Mulrenin LLC on Thursday at 9:00 p.m., and a luncheon on Friday at 12:15 p.m.
This year’s luncheon guest speaker is Eric Brunstad, a partner at Dechert LLP, Professor of Law at NYU School and Law, and frequent visiting lecturer at Yale Law School. Eric has argued 10 cases and worked on more than 35 other matters before the U.S. Supreme Court. His appearances before the Supreme Court include his argument on behalf of the Marshall family in the Anna Nicole Smith case, Marshall v. Marshall, 547 U.S. 293 (2006); his argument on behalf of Travelers in Travelers Cas. & Sur. Co. v. Pacific Gas & Elec. Co., 127 S. Ct. 1199 (2007); and his argument on behalf of Citizens Bank in Marrama v. Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, 127 S. Ct. 1105 (2007).
